1. Introduction
This Application Note describes the steps to configure a SIP trunk between Rogers SIP Trunking Service and an E-MetroTel UCX Server. Rogers typically provide an Ethernet connection with its own private addressing scheme to connect directly to the Rogers SIP network, which requires a second Ethernet port on the UCX to be used. The second port must be configured to allow SIP calls to pass between the two UCX Ethernet ports.
Before you start creating SIP trunks, ensure you verify the following:
2. Trunk Configuration
Configure SIP Trunk
Use the IP Trunk Assistant page for simplified management of trunks from Rogers.
The UCX Administration has a pre-configured selection for Rogers under the PBX | IP Trunk Assistant.
- Select New Account.
- Use the drop down menu to set the Trunk Provider to Rogers.
Note that even though SIP providers were tested and verified for SIP interoperability, carrier implementations can change over time.
Using E-MetroTel SIP trunks via either the Canadian or US locations can greatly simplify support as E-MetroTel is responsible for both sides of the SIP signaling / message flow.
Here is a typical set of Rogers SIP TRUNK information. Please use the equivalent information provided to you by Rogers.
Add the SIP Trunk information highlighted above to the IP Trunk Assistant, and leave the rest as default.
Click on Submit Changes when done.
3. Network Configuration
The Rogers SIP Trunk service will require the use of the second Ethernet port (Ethernet 1) on the UCX if available. The UCX Ethernet 0 configuration will not require any changes, so details are not included in our example, although additional information on how to configure the Ethernet ports.
Configure Ethernet 1
The Ethernet 1 connection will pass SIP and media information from the Rogers connection to the UCx and the rest of the UCx connected devices on Ethernet 0.
The DNS server addressing and other network configuration items should be configured as shown for the Rogers network.
Add the SIP Trunk network information highlighed in cyan below into the UCX Network | Ethernet 1 section:
Click on Submit Changes when done.
Configure Static Route
A static route must be created to pass SIP and media information from the Rogers connection to the rest of the UCX connected devices on Ethernet 0.
Add the SIP Trunk network information highlighted in green below the the Route for Ethernet 1:
