E1/T1 Card – UCX Gateway Configuration

Background

In most cases, the E1/T1 Card will be used as a standard gateway interface between the UCX and a physical E1 or T1 connection from the PSTN. This requires the configuration of a SIP trunk on both the UCX and the E1/T1 Gateway Card as well as configuration of the settings on the E1/T1 Gateway Card to connect to the PSTN service provider.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the UCX Web-based Configuration Utility and Galaxy E1/T1 gateway card Administration pages via Web browser.
  • PRI cable from the PSTN

Connect T1 Cable

Connect PRI crossover cable to the Galaxy E1/T1 card on the E1/T1/J1 port and to the 3rd party’s E1 or T1 card.

2. Configure Trunk Settings

This section identifies what is required to establish the connection between the E1/T1 Gateway card and the PSTN. It involves identifying the SIP Trunk Profile used for mapping traffic to and from the UCX, as well as the Port Settings Layer 2 (E1/T1) framing format and PRI Settings Layer 3 (signalling) format for the physical connection.

2.1 SIP Trunk

Add a SIP trunk on this page.

The SIP trunk can be configured using either Registration or IP Authentication. The example below uses the IP Authentication method.

Enter the IP address and Port of the UCX in the field Inbound Identity By IP:PORT. (e.g. 192.168.20.1:5060)

Enable Registration field is set to No.

Click the Save button.

2.3 PRI Settings

Edit the PRI Settings to change the Signaling Type, Switch Type and Dialing Plan.

The Signaling Type must be configured as the User Side. Match the Switch Type that the PSTN side of the PRI connection is using. In North America that will often be National ISDN 2 (NI-2), while in Europe or other international locations it would likely be EuroISDN or Q.Sig.
