Step 1 – Configure the SIP Trunk
E-MetroTel SIP Trunks can be quickly provisioned on the UCX through the IP Trunk Assistant.
- Navigate to the IP Trunk Assistant by clicking on the PBX top-level menu and then click on IP Trunk Assistant sub menu.
- Click on New Account.
- Enter a reference name for the account in the Account Name.
- In the Trunk Provider drop-down box, select either E-MetroTel IP Auth. or E-MetroTel Registration based on the selection made in the E-MetroTel Cloud Services configuration for the SIP trunk in the Partner Portal. Note that the Host/IP parameter is automatically populated based on the country associated with the UCX serial number.
- If your SIP Trunk is configured for Registration on the Partner Portal you must enter the Serial Number of the SIP Trunk for the User Name and the VOIP Password provided on the Portal must be entered as the Secret in the IP Trunk Assistant. If you are using IP Authentication then these fields will not be shown.
- You may choose to enter one of the DID’s assigned to this SIP Trunk in the Cloud Services section of the Partner Portal as the Outbound CallerID.
- All other Configuration Details can be left unchanged.
- Click Save.
Step 2 – Configure the Inbound Route(s)
For any Inbound Routes that you build that are associated with this SIP Trunk, ensure that the DID number(s) are preceded with the digit 1 as all DIDs from E-MetroTel SIP Trunks are 11 digits in length including the leading 1.
The complete instructions for configuring an Inbound Route are provided in Inbound Routes.
Step 3 – Configure the Outbound Route(s)
Configuration for North America Dialing
For any Outbound Routes that you build that are associated with this SIP Trunk based on the standard North American dial plan, ensure that the system will send 11 digits, including the leading 1 digit. This can be accomplished by 1) enforcing users to always dial the leading 1 digit or 2) to create Dial Patterns that prepend the 1 digit if only 10 digits are dialed. Both of these scenarios can be configured together in the same outbound route in the Dial Patterns that will use this Route as follows:
The first three entries above will automatically insert the digit 1 that has been included in the prepend field whenever 10 digit dialing has been detected, resulting in 11 digits being sent. The fourth entry above recognizes when 11 digits have been dialed with a leading 1 digit and will send all 11 digits automatically.
The complete instructions for configuring an Outbound Route are provided in Outbound Routes.
Emergency Services (911) Dialing
E-MetroTel SIP Trunks can be used for emergency dialing. DIDs sent to the public services answering positions must be associated with a valid address through the E-MetroTel – SIP Trunk E911 Registration process. For details on UCX configuration for emergency calls, refer to Configure UCX for Kari’s Law and Ray Baum’s Act. In North America, E-MetroTel recommends entries not only for 911, but for the digits 9911 (for scenarios where a caller may inadvertently assume they have to dial ( for an outside line), as well as 933 (for testing the address lookup for each DID associated with the SIP trunk), and for 988 (National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline).
Special 3 Digit City Services Code Dialing
Many municipalities offer 3 digit dialing for access to special services such as:
- 211—Community Help Services – United Way
- 311—Municipal Government Services
- 11—Directory Assistance*
- 511—Traffic Information
- 611—Phone Company Repair*
- 711—TDD and Relay for the Deaf
- 811—Underground Public Utility Location
If these 3 digit dial patterns are required for a particular customer, add an entry in the outgoing route’s Dial Patterns that will use this Route for each of these 3 digit strings, and use the Prepend field to insert the digit 1 in the dial string.
