SIP Trunking between IP Office and UCX

This page describes how to set up a SIP trunk between a UCX system and IP Office. The connection is authenticated using IP addresses or host names of the two systems.

Configuration Example

For the configuration example in the sections below, the configuration of the UCX and IP Office systems would be as follows:

  • IP Office Configuration
    • IP Address: 192.168.1.250
    • SIP Port: 5060
    • Extensions: 33XXX, 34XXX
  • UCx Configuration
    • IP Address: 192.168.1.200
    • SIP Port: 5060
    • Extensions: 4N (all extensions start with the digit 4)

Configuration of UCX

​STEP 1 – SIP Trunk

Login to UCX Administration and navigate to IP Trunk Assistant page. Perform the following steps to create a SIP trunk:

  1. Add a New Account.
  2. Fill in the following fields:
    • Account Name –  enter a descriptive name, e.g. IPOffice.
    • Host / IP –  enter the hostname or IP address of IP Office system, e.g. 192.168.1.250
  3. Press the Save button.

STEP 2 – Outbound Route

Use the Adding Outbound Routes procedure to add a new outbound route to the BCM system.

  • In the Route Name field, enter a descriptive name for the route, e.g. IPOffice
  • Under Dial Patterns that will use this Route, in the match pattern field enter the dial patterns that will use this route, e.g. 33XXX and 34XXX
  • Under Trunk Sequence for Matched Routes, select the trunk that was created in Step One from the drop-down list (e.g. IPOffice)

With this outbound route configuration, dialing 33XXX or 34XXX from UCx phones sends calls over the IPOffice SIP trunk to the IP Office system.

STEP 3 – Inbound Route

To allow extensions  on the IP Office system to call UCX extensions, there is no need to add an inbound route if you configure the IP Office system to send UCX extensions numbers without any prefix/suffix.  If you decide to send extra digits or for other types of calls (such as tandem calls over UCX trunks), you would need to configure appropriate inbound route(s).

Configuration of IP Office

Administer IP Office using the Manager application and configure the system as follows.

STEP 1 – SIP Trunk

Perform the following steps to add a SIP trunk:

  1. From the left Manager navigation pane, right click Line and select New SIP Line.
  2. In the ITSP Domain Name field, enter the hostname or IP address of the UCx Server (e.g. 192.168.1.200). Use default values for the remaining fields. Take note of the Line Number (e.g. 18) for use later.
  3. Select the Transport tab. In the ITSP Proxy Address field, enter the IP Address of the UCx Server (e.g. 192.168.1.200).
  4. Select the SIP URI tab. Click Add. Enter values for the following fields:
    • Local URI – Select Use Internal Data.
    • Contact – Select Use Internal Data.
    • Display Name – Select Use Internal Data.
    • PAI – Select Use Internal Data.
    • Incoming Group – Enter the Line Number (e.g. 18).
    • Outgoing Group – Enter the Line Number (e.g. 18).

  5. The remaining tabs can be left at default.

STEP 2 – Incoming Route

From the left Manager navigation pane, select Incoming Call Route and add a new route.

  1. On the Standard tab, enter the Line Number (e.g. 18) of the SIP trunk in the Line Group ID field.
  2. On the Destinations tab. Enter a period “.” in the Destination column.

STEP 3 – Outbound Short code

With this short code configuration, dialing any number that begins with “4” and completing the call with the # sign, will send calls over the SIP trunk to the UCx system.

From the left Manager navigation pane, select Short Code.

  1. In the Code field, enter the short code that matches the number dialed to reach the UCx Server (e.g. 4N;).
  2. In the Telephone Number field, enter the number dialed by this short code (e.g. 4N).
  3. In the Line Group ID field, enter the Line Number of the SIP trunk (e.g. 18).
