UCX Administration
System – Updates
IMPORTANT

Please refer to Software update fails (Unable to access repositories) if you receive a message indicating that the UCX is "Unable to access software repositories".

The Software Update page allows you to:

  • Check if updated software packages are available from online repositories and display a list of these packages
  • Update installed software packages from online repositories
  • Configure online repositories to be used for updates
  • Configure the frequency of automatic software updates

Check for Updates

To retrieve/refresh information about updated software packages from online repositories, perform the following steps:

  1. From the System tab tab, select Updates.
  2. From the left side column, select Software Update.
  3. Configure the online repositories used for updates by using the pull-down list in the Set Source field. (Note that UCx Patches repository includes recently released fully verified packages that address specific problems reported from the field). E-MetroTel recommends leaving the drop-down repository Source. However, either the UCX Updates or UCX Updates, UCX Patches selections can be used. Unless directed by E-MetroTel support, do not select a drop-down entry containing the Public repository entry. If you have changed the Source repository you must lock-in the selection by pressing the Set Source button.
  4. Press the Check For Updates button.

  8. If there are no updates available, the following message is displayed.

Update the Software

IMPORTANT

Some updates require the disruption of telephony services and active calls may be dropped without warning. These updates must only be done after hours or when such disruption is acceptable. A warning message is presented if the software update includes packages that can cause an interruption of telephony services. Update of software packages can take several minutes. Wait for the operation to complete!

NOTE

Internet access is required to check for updates and to install updates.
Software updates require access to the software repositories, the following port and access must be allowed on the network where the UCX server resides:

  • DNS (source UDP port 53)
  • HTTP access based on the connection state (we need to receive responses for our HTTP requests)

  • Manual – Immediate

To perform a manual or immediate update of the software:

    1. Press the Update Software button to update the listed software packages.

    Manual – CLI

Software updates can also be invoked from the UCX Command Line Interface (CLI). This requires logging into the UCX with an SSH connection via an application such as PuTTY using the Admin account credentials.

At the command line prompt, type: ucxcli_update. The software update will be performed immediately.

The process will present a warning to users of the UCX Administration user interface that an update is in progress and the system should not be turned off or restarted.
