Before users can start using their InfinityOne Softphone, the following steps need to be completed by the administrator.
Step 1 – Configure UCX for InfinityOne
To allow the InfinityOne Softphone to make and receive calls, there are a few settings on the UCX that must be configured.
This step should already have been completed as described in InfinityOne – Configuring UCX for InfinityOne – Section 1.
Step 2 – Enable WebRTC on InfinityOne
The InfinityOne Administration settings must be configured as follows:
- Open an InfinityOne session using the Desktop or Web Browser interface and log in with your administrator account
- Select Administration -> WebRTC,
- Enter a valid STUN server in the format stun:stunserver (i.e. stun:stun.emetrotel.org:3478). If the UCX is using a STUN server, this server should be the same as the UCX.
- If you have made any changes to the page, click Save Changes.
Step 3 – Configure User Extensions
There are two features that we will be using to register the extensions: Hotdesking and Set Based Configuration.
These two features should first be enabled on the UCX as described in InfinityOne – Configuring UCX for InfinityOne – Section 2.
There are two types of users that will be using the InfinityOne softphone:
- Virtual Users – The InfinityOne softphone is their primary phone, these users will be assigned a WebRTC extension.
- Hotdesk Users – Users who already have a desktop phone with a Nortel extension assigned, the InfinityOne softphone will be hotdesked to their existing extension.
Virtual Users
To configure the softphone as the primary phone for the user, perform the following steps:
- Create an InfinityOne extension for the user on the UCX Server. (See Adding an InfinityOne Extension for details.)
- Create an account on InfinityOne for the user and assign the InfinityOne extension to the user. (See Adding Users and Phone Presence and Click to Call for details.)
- Communicate the following information to the user:
- The user’s InfinityOne account login credentials
- The user’s extension number
- The Set Based Configuration password (default is 82950)
- Provide a link to the Quick Start Guide
- Users can follow instructions in the Quick Start Guide to enable and register their own InfinityOne softphone.
Hotdesk Users
For users who already have a desktop phone, hotdesking is a valuable feature that allows users to easily switch between their desktop phone and the InfinityOne softphone on their computer or mobile device, without requiring any additional licenses for each device.
To configure the softphone as a secondary phone where hotdesking will be used, perform the following steps:
- Assign Hotdesking password to the user’s primary extension. (See Hotdesking for details.)
- Create an account on InfinityOne for the user and assign the primary phone extension to the user. (See Adding Users and Phone Presence and Click to Call for details.)
- Communicate the following information to the user:
- The user’s InfinityOne account login credentials.
- Hotdesking password for the user’s primary extension.
- Provide a link to the Quick Start Guide
- Users can follow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide to hotdesk their extension to the InfinityOne softphone.
Hotdesking is a feature that only applies to E-MetroTel InfinityOne softphones, XSTIM phones (Infinity 5000 series) or Nortel/Avaya Digital or IP (Unistim) based sets. You cannot Hotdesk to SIP-based telephones!
Softphones will not work when the system is in survivability mode.
InfinityOne client will automatically detect the HotDesking configuration and will add the hotdesked extension for Presence and Click to Call capabilities.
