IVS – Licenses
NOTE

You are no longer required to obtain a license from E-MetroTel for your product via an email request to [email protected] and then manually copy and paste the license string into the Video Server Administration page. This process is now handled through E-MetroTel's Serial Management Tool system. However, if you do not have access to the Serial Management Tool, send an email to [email protected] with your reseller credentials to ensure an account is created.

Enter License / License Retrieval

The License Retrieval page allows you to update the product license, assuming that the new license is available for retrieval. The license is generated based on the profile on the E-MetroTel Serial Tool Management System. To update the product license on your system, perform the following steps:

  1. From the System tab, select Licenses
  2. From the left side column, select Enter License

License Details

The License Details page allows you to view information about the license installed on your Video Server. To use your Video Server it must be properly licensed. The Video Server uses an automated process to retrieve and activate licenses via the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system.

To verify the installed license, perform the following steps:

  1. From the System tab, select Licenses
  2. From the left side column, select License Details

Your system is properly licensed if you see a page similar to the one below.

Your system is not licensed if you see a warning indicating that there is an Invalid License.

In either case, you will note that the system’s Serial Number is listed in the License Details page below the Host ID and the Asset Number.

If your system is not licensed, proceed to Enter License/License Retrieval section and follow the steps.

System Activation

You must request a license through your reseller or, if you are a reseller, through E-MetroTel.  You will be required to provide the serial number of the Video Server.  You will have received the serial number during your online purchase or from the resller representative.

Preparing for Activation

Prior to activating the system, E-MetroTel recommends performing a Software Update to ensure that the system has the latest available functionality and enabling the Remote Access functionality to facilitate product support.

IMPORTANT

ALL systems require a Software Update prior to beginning the System Activation process.

Software Update

The Software Update will ensure that the system has the latest software updates, including any associated with the Activation process itself to be installed and running on the system.

  1. Ensure that you have configured a valid DNS and Gateway in the Network settings
  2. Navigate to the System tab, select Updates.
  3. If not already in the Software Update tab on the left-hand side menu, expand the left hand menu and select it.
  4. Complete the steps to update the Video Server as noted in Software Update documentation.

Remote Access

The Remote Access feature allows the Reseller and E-MetroTel to remotely connect to the device for support and maintenance.

  1. Navigate to the Support tab, and select Remote Access.
  2. Ensure that you have a valid User or Partner Remote Access partner account with valid credentials.
  3. Follow the steps identified in the Remote Access documentation in the sections titled Remote Access Registration and Remote Access Activation.

Activating a system for the first time

Enter the Serial Number you have received (as noted above) into the Serial Number field in the System Activation page: IVSLicenseActivation.png

Create a Clean System Backup

Before doing any additional configuration,  E-MetroTel recommends that you perform a system backup and select all optional components. Having this backup will allow you to easily restore the system or select components to a clean configuration at any  time without requiring re-activation. Please refer to the instructions provided in the Backup documentation.
